Bryan Hugo Iglesias: "Missing the Mark"

Bryan Hugo Iglesias is an interdisciplinary musical and visual artist living in Cass Corridor, Detroit. Working out of Corktown based artist-development hub Assemble Sound, Iglesias has spent the past 3 years honing in on his craft both in the studio and onstage.

His new single “Missing the Mark” is an acoustic ballad about artistic insecurity and the nostalgia for simpler times.

The artist explains “I wrote this song on a particularly vulnerable winter day in Detroit. At the time I was dealing with a lot of insecurities as an artist. My friends were moving away, I saw people making moves that were out of my reach - and even though I was happy to see them succeed - it made me feel like I wasn’t keeping up. I longed for a time when life made sense and I didn’t feel so alone.”

“Little did I know that the COVID-19 pandemic was about to drastically interrupt our way of life - with Detroit being one of the hardest hit cities in the country. Suddenly I’m isolated, longing for the routine pleasures I used to take for granted. I find myself worrying about the safety of my family, my friends that are nurses, the staff still working at the market by my house, and the wise homeless man that hung out at my favorite bar. The people that make this city so special.”

”Now I romanticize those days that I felt like I wasn’t enough - because in reality - the people that loved me thought I was enough the entire time.”
