Delicate Place: "Palimpsest"

Delicate Place: "Palimpsest"

Delicate Place is an indie band from Berlin made up of Martin (vocals, guitars, keys), Esteban „Ste“ Ruiz (drums, percussion), Madlen (vocals, guitar, keys) and Richard (bass guitar). The band formed in 2012 and all their music is self produced and recorded. If you listen closely, they sound exactly like indie - lo-fi - pop - rock - psychedelic - surf - avantgarde - folk. They are influenced by bands like Deep Sea Diver, Spoon, Grizzly Bear, M. Ward, Menomena and Sufjan Stevens. After their debut album „Dry Blue“ they produced the two singles Bloody Knuckles and Nudging.

“Palimpsest” is the just released latest single. The laid-back, folkish tune is about the concept, that your brain is like a palimpsest, that saves memories, dreams, mistakes and failure of certain steps in your life. The inscribed experiences pale as time goes by, but will always be a part of what constitutes oneself. The idea came to me, when I sat in my kitchen looking at a black board where I write all kinds of things down, like books or theories I want to read, mathematical proofs, upcoming birthday dates of friends or grocery lists. One layer of the artwork is actually a photo of this blackboard.

Martin explained “Shortly before the „Kontaktverbot“ (social distancing) that was enforced in Berlin as a result of the corona-crisis, I went to our rehearsal space and took all the recording equipment, mics and instruments I could carry home with me. We produced and recorded the track in a week in the bedroom and kitchen of my apartment in Berlin-Lichtenberg.”
