HALAN: "Best Intentions"

HALAN: "Best Intentions"

HALAN is a singer-songwriter and producer based in Los Angeles. She dabbled in various music projects during and after college, which included singing in 80's rock cover bands and in an original theatrical metal band, before finally pursuing her own solo alt-pop and dream pop project in 2019. Her music influences span many genres and include The Weeknd, Tame Impala, Meg Myers, Lana Del Rey, and Author & Punisher.

‘Best Intentions’ is the first song HALAN worked on since she started producing music in 2019. It’s about someone she dated for a month in her freshman year of college whose bad memory lasted for years after. The song has late ‘90s and early 2000s love ballad vibes, in the likes of M2M, Maria Arredondo and Sarah Maclachlan, some of HALAN's earliest musical exposures. ‘Best Intentions’ is the titular song from her just released EP, a collection of dark pop songs addressed to four men she had romantically crossed paths with. Though HALAN channels melancholy into her music, she is quirky and comedic in person. The songs in Best Intentions are honest feelings she doesn’t express in real life. She finished recording the EP in various cramped closets of her apartment after her roommates moved out during the lockdown, leaving just HALAN and her diminutive cat Pea-Pea. She also acted and produced a single-take music video all by herself in her Los Angeles apartment which went live on August 15, 2020.
