Hook: The Drugs Are Working

Hook: The Drugs Are Working

Hook are Eoin O'Donnell - vocals, guitars. Morgan O'Brien - drums. Niamh Carmody - bass, vocals. They play new wave indie rock.

Lovely comparisons have been made with Pixies, The Smiths, Neil Young, Elvis Costello and Velvet Underground.

Morgan O’Brien, Danny Spelman and Eoin O'Donnell formed the band in late 2019 releasing several singles and playing numerous gigs so far. Niamh Carmody joined on bass in June 2023.

They play direct, honest music, trying to dispense with the distractions of the world today. Focus on the positive, the light, the love that's out there. You get back what you give. Hook send out all the positives they can count while trying to keep that honesty in the music. The songs are about the small moments, the brutality of love and finding the beautiful in the simple.

They just released their new double A-side "The Drugs Are Working” which is actually two versions of the same song. One more immediate, electric version, the other in a more measured, acoustic style.

The message in both is the same - searching for and finding whatever it is that can make the world a brighter place for you.

It’s not actually about drugs!

Both songs are accompanied by a "B-side" - the bruising "Walk On Me"
