Interview: Sarah Seifert

Sarah Seifert is a singer/songwriter who is inspired by her faith.

We recently had the pleasure of checking in with her and she was kind enough to respond to a few interview questions.

Sarah - Tell us more about how you got started in music?
I got started in music as a child, training in classical piano, and then as a teenager began to write my own songs (a lot of sad love songs --many g minors lol). I got away from it for a few years, but later found myself back as a vocalist on a worship team at Aletheia Church in Boston (as well as other churches), and leading worship for me, leading a band, was incredible--i knew that i knew that i knew that music was the calling on my life, for the rest of my life. This led to studying in Nashville for periods of time, really honing my craft as a writer--meeting amazing people and learning from them. I came to Florida and began leading worship at a small Church and other side gigs, etc. What I treasure most though, are the times with just me and the piano--as I like to say, she keeps all my secrets, all my joys, all my wounds, all my triumphs. Whether it's a song I plan to produce and share with the world, or a song that's meant to be just for me and God--I find myself falling in love with music again and again and again.

What is the most difficult aspect about starting a career in entertainment?
Oh boy--what isn't difficult about starting a career in entertainment, haha! I would say staying true to yourself and the gift God has given you. It's great to take advice, constructive criticism, but sticking to your gut and who you are is key, When a producer tries to convince you the song would be more appealing to the masses in version b when you know in your heart that YOUR song that YOU created doesn't align with that, stick to your gut! Don't fall into people-pleasing, trying to change yourself and your work to please others. People want the real you, not an instagram-filtered version of the artist God made you. Try not to look at the hater comments--give your best work to the world--there are those who will appreciate it and those who won't. It's really that simple.

Who are your biggest influences in music and why?
My current biggest influences are Amanda Lindsey Cook, Lauren Daigle, and Maverick City Music.. Amanda Lindsey Cook is so vulnerable and transparent in her lyrics--both Christian and secular, you can't help but feel the feelings and identify with the joys, the pains--all of it. The way she leads music is so honest, she never forces it to look bright and shiny and cookie-cutter Christian-like. It's just...raw. Lauren Daigle has an incredible way of bringing in an audience of such different demographics together, because of her incredible voice and the joy in her songs, the lament in the sorrowful ones--it hits your heart and leaves an echo. I really respect that. Maverick City Music creates an environment that cultivates joy like i've never seen before. It's so incredibly powerful--not to mention their amazing songwriting skills.

Do you have anything that is new or upcoming that we can expect to see from you?
My new single out is called "The Valley," and it's available everywhere. This one is very special to me, as my debut single, and It's about finding hope in the middle of a "valley season" of pain and despair. You will definitely be hearing more from me, and you can follow up with me on my social links.
