Hash Cabbage Releases New Album ‘Argan’

by Jack Rush

New Orleans band Hash Cabbage have just unveiled their fourth studio album, Argan. It’s a 10-song record that highlights the band’s signature sound, a healthy blend of Southern rock, funk, and sounds from around the world.

Argan was recorded at the iconic Dockside Studios in Louisiana and features some tastefully unusual instrumentation. The use of the North African lotar and the handpan give the album a unique sound that showcases an evolution of sound for the band and a willingness to explore outside of convention.

“The name Argan comes from an ancient tree native to Morocco, and that really sets the blueprint for the entire record,” says singer Kenny Jefferson. “We didn’t want to make another standard Southern blues-rock album.”

For years, Hash Cabbage has built its name the old-fashioned way, traveling the region on the road and playing shows in towns across the country. Their mix of guitar-driven rock and improvisation has helped them grow a loyal fanbase far beyond their hometown of New Orleans.

With Argan, the band is showing a different side of the city's music scene while continuing to do things on their own terms. The album features fan favorites "Lovin Romance," "Color of Blue," and "Bard on Basin Street," and is available now on vinyl and all major streaming platforms.
