TONY NEW Rejects the Pressure to Conform With ‘FOREVER GOOD’

by Jack Rush

The expectation that artists must constantly produce, promote, and reinvent themselves has become an accepted condition of the modern music industry. For New Jersey-born rapper and producer TONY NEW, the process behind his album FOREVER GOOD suggests a different approach, one that places personal conviction ahead of deadlines and external approval.

Three years in development, FOREVER GOOD documents a period in which TONY NEW, born Tony Newbury, reconsidered both his personal relationships and his professional direction. The album addresses a familiar but rarely straightforward dilemma: how much of one's past must be abandoned to pursue a different future?

The project is particularly concerned with the distance between recognizing the need for change and acting upon it. TONY NEW describes leaving people and experiences behind as he became more comfortable expressing himself without compromise. Rather than framing these decisions as uncomplicated victories, the album's underlying premise acknowledges that personal progress often requires uncomfortable choices.

His perspective carries the weight of considerable industry experience. Having contributed to projects involving A$AP Rocky, YG, Malik Yusef, and WESTSIDE BOOGIE, TONY NEW understands the distinction between participating in the music business and establishing an identity within it.

That experience informs his broader ambitions, which include creating opportunities for other independent musicians and potentially developing his own record label.

The album also features “DOPAMINE REMIX,” a collaboration with WESTSIDE BOOGIE supported by a music video from R3x Wonders and Natalie Cali.

What distinguishes the philosophy behind FOREVER GOOD is its rejection of a fixed timeline for achievement. Its three-year development was not merely a delay between releases but an intentional period of creative and personal reconstruction.

For TONY NEW, the album ultimately raises a question that extends well beyond music: whether success retains its value when achieving it requires abandoning the person you intended to become.
