Elisabeth Waters: "Pet Names"

Elisabeth Waters: "Pet Names"

Elisabeth Waters is a Boston-based singer/songwriter. Growing up, her home was filled with the sounds of jazz icons Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, and Duke Ellington. This influence held strong and sent her to Berklee College of Music as a Jazz Composition major.

Her latest single, ‘Pet Names,’ creates a retro style with a fresh feel, combining her jazz influences with R&B, neo soul, and pop. Her arrangement of rich horn sections with tightly clustered harmonies reflects her time studying at Berklee. With an infectious beat and a smooth style from the keys and guitar, the song brings a modern touch to the old-school jazz sound. The lyrics stem from her personal experiences, offering a genuine, although ambiguous, look into her feelings surrounding relationships and heartbreak.

Her previous releases, ‘Taste Like You’ and ‘Blue,’ give listeners the same cryptic, yet honest, glimpse into her personal life. With stripped down instrumentation, these songs are more raw portrayals of her emotions.

‘Pet Names’ is indicative of what Elisabeth will be continuing to create in the future: testing her arranging abilities with varied instrumentation while paying homage to her jazz roots.
