Madeleine Rauch: Obsessed

Madeleine is a singer and songwriter currently based in Los Angeles. Her music blends vulnerable lyrics and slightly raspy vocals with R&B and Pop beats. Inspired early on by singers like Erykah Badu and Alicia Keys, and current infuences like Banks and H.E.R, Madeleine created her own authentc style – best described as alternatve R&B.

Her love for music started at a young age when she sang in the children's church choir and her biggest musical idol was Michael Jackson. Now her resume includes a Gold Record Award, sold-out arena shows with names like Marteria, Ms Platnum and 3 Plusss, and performances at Rock im Park, Sziget Festval and Lollapalooza, the A-Trane Berlin and Gruenspan in Hamburg.

Growing up in Freiburg, Germany, she started singing in choirs at the age of 4 and taking piano lessons at the age of 7. Afer high school, she got accepted to one of Germany's highly compettve Jazz universites – the Hochschule for Musik “Franz Liszt” Weimar – where she studied Jazz Voice with renowned teachers such as Jef Cascaro, Michael Schiefel and Frank Möbus and completed her Bachelor of Music degree.

In 2013, she was chosen among over 200 applicants for the famous Pop Music program “Popkurs” in Hamburg with teachers such as Peter Weihe and Jane Comerford. In Fall 2014, she atended Berklee College of Music in Boston on a merit-based scholarship with a focus on Songwritng and Performance, where her teachers included Gabrielle Goodman, Livingston Taylor and Lenny Stallworth.

After receiving praise from Lefuturewave, Music Crowns and Now Entertainment for her latest single “Far Away”, Madeleine Rauch is excited to follow up with her new single “Obsessed”. Chill R&B verses and a bassy, groovy chorus blend with Rauch's raspy voice and smooth vocal harmonies. This single is the first of two collabs with producers Jordan Sherman and Josh Jacobson who are successful artists themselves. Rauch wrote the song in 2021 while feeling isolated and as if “there was nothing else to do but to lock yourself in a room with a piano and a mic and get lost in reveries and 'what-ifs'”. In this particular song about a past romance the main “what-if” question is “Oh what if we now meet again?” - to quote the song. The relaxed, storytelling verses lead up to an energetic chorus that expresses the exhilarating but also obsessive infatuation with someone. “During this time when we all had to stay at home so much I tended to give room to all my daydreaming and fantasies and used them as inspiration for my songwriting. And in this song, it's about a relationship or romantic encounter from the past that might feel unfinished and you wonder if you met that person again, would there still be a spark? And then you can't stop thinking about the person and the possibilities and start kind of obsessing – hence the name of the song.”
