Sandro Shar: "Precious Place"

Sandro Shar: "Precious Place"

Sandro Shar is a 16 year old multi-instrumentalist/producer/songwriter from Berkshire, England and has just release his debut single “Precious Place”.

He explained the backstory of the song: “I recorded ‘Precious Place' in my small bedroom studio. I wrote it about Georgia (the country of my heritage) and basically how I miss it and hope to visit to see family soon (which isn’t possible due to Covid-19 and the quarantine period over there).  The song is also in 5/4 as I wanted to explore more unconventional time signatures and still make it sound natural to a listener. In terms of style and inspirations it's similar to that of new british neo-soul/jazz; people like Tom Misch, Jordan Rakei, Jorja Smith etc. I also took a lot of inspiration from Sting and his way of writing songs as well as lyrics. Other influences on this song would be from a modern jazz trio called the Esbjörn Svensson Trio and their experimentation with time signatures. Around halfway in the song (the piano solo/spoken word part) I put in parts of my Grandma's old poem in Georgian as a kind of tribute to Georgia and to her. I recorded the majority of the instruments live apart from the drums, which I programmed with samples.”
