2far2jump – “Think It Over”: A Thrilling New Chapter for the Guildford Rock Trio
by Jack Rush
After a period of relative quiet, Guildford and South London alternative rock trio 2far2jump return with “Think It Over,” an exhilarating and melodic new single that signals an exciting new chapter for the band.
Formed by vocalist and rhythm guitarist Luke Harland-Cole, lead guitarist Rupert Barker and drummer Aaron Mann, 2far2jump have spent the past decade developing a sound rooted in guitar-driven rock while drawing influence from across generations. Their musical touchstones range from Palaye Royale, Linkin Park and You Me At Six to The Hunna, Badflower, Led Zeppelin and Greta Van Fleet, resulting in a style that combines melodic guitar work, thought-provoking lyrics and hard-hitting drums.
Since their 2015 debut single “The Training Ground,” the band have built an impressive catalogue of singles and two EPs, earning support from Kerrang! Radio, Kerrang! TV and BBC Introducing. Their previous releases have also attracted a substantial streaming audience, with several tracks surpassing 50,000 Spotify streams.
“Think It Over” sees the band retaining the guitar-driven energy and emotional directness of their earlier material while embracing a more pronounced indie influence. The result is a track that feels immediate and accessible without sacrificing the intensity that has always been central to the 2far2jump sound.
The song’s subject matter is equally relatable. “Think It Over” explores the exhausting cycle of overthinking and the difficulty of escaping your own thoughts, capturing the sleeplessness, doubt and physical tension that can accompany anxiety. Its central refrain cleverly contrasts the idea of thinking something through with the point at which those thoughts begin to consume you.
There is also something fitting about the circumstances in which the song was born. Luke Harland-Cole came up with the initial melody spontaneously while travelling home on a bus. As he explains, the song emerged while he was experiencing precisely the kind of overthinking that would eventually become its subject.
“Think It Over is about overthinking, and I was doing exactly that when I started writing it on the bus home one day.”
The melody stayed with Luke until he got home, where he developed the idea further before bringing it to Rupert and Aaron. From that initial spark, the band shaped the song into the finished track.
Produced by Federico “Fed” Telesca, whose credits include Malevolence, EXTS, VIVAS and The Pretty Ugly, “Think It Over” immediately grabs attention with processed, twanging guitar leads before crashing into driving drums and bouncy riffs. The arrangement then pulls back as Luke’s gentler vocals enter, creating a dynamic contrast that gives the song plenty of room to build.
Crunchy guitar stabs, snapping percussion and melodic vocal lines carry the track forward before everything surges into an anthemic chorus. Here, belted hooks and bright lead guitar work collide with charging drums and guitars, giving “Think It Over” the kind of infectious lift that makes it particularly well suited to a live setting.
Sonically, there are echoes of the immediacy of early You Me At Six, while the band's more contemporary indie-rock direction places them comfortably alongside The Hunna, As December Falls, Inhaler, Palaye Royale and As It Is. Yet 2far2jump never sound as though they are simply imitating their influences; instead, they bring together elements from different eras to create a sound that feels distinctly their own.
“Think It Over” is an invigorating return from a band with both history and momentum behind them. Born from an ordinary bus journey but dealing with an experience that will feel anything but ordinary to many listeners, the single turns a familiar state of mind into a compelling piece of melodic alternative rock.
After a decade of developing their sound and building an audience, 2far2jump have returned with a track that feels less like a comeback than the beginning of something new. “Think It Over” is a confident, energetic and melodic statement of intent — and an exciting indication of where this enduring trio could go next.
