Amélie Giardini: Beast

Amélie Giardini’s Beast Finds Beauty in the Darkest Corners of Desire

by Jack Rush

London-based Franco-Australian singer-songwriter Amélie Giardini returns with Beast, a confident and dramatic indie-pop track that delves into the darker contradictions of human nature and relationships.

Her third single, Beast occupies the uncomfortable space between knowing something is bad for you and being unable to walk away. Through its introspective lyrics, Giardini explores guilt, desire, vulnerability and the complicated reasons we sometimes return to situations we know can hurt us. At the heart of the song is a striking metaphor: a fragile mind “leeching on a beast,” as the narrator gradually begins to question whether she has been blaming the wrong creature all along.

What immediately stands out is Giardini's rich and commanding vocal performance. Her voice carries both strength and vulnerability, effortlessly drawing the listener into the emotional tension of the song. The vocal is complemented by expressive piano keys, lush guitar plucks and steady, understated drum rhythms, creating a warm and intimate backdrop that allows the song's emotional weight to remain front and centre.

There is also a welcome sense of ambiguity to Beast. Rather than offering easy answers, Giardini leaves room for the listener to consider questions of responsibility, complicity and power within relationships. It's an approach that reflects the broader character of her songwriting, which frequently examines the contradictions of human behaviour with a sharp sense of observation, dark humour and self-awareness.

Raised on a small tropical island, Giardini developed an early sensitivity to the textures, colours and rhythms of nature, a sensibility that continues to influence both her music and its visual identity. Alongside her musical career, she works in international environmental and human rights policy, bringing her into contact with complex and often uncomfortable realities that further inform her perspective as a songwriter.

Following her debut single Sombre Maze and second release Red Pill, Beast marks the next chapter of her Colour Bound project, a body of work that will continue to unfold throughout the year.

With its compelling vocal, atmospheric instrumentation and psychologically intriguing subject matter, Beast offers an intimate and thought-provoking introduction to the next stage of Amélie Giardini's musical journey.
