Becky Raisman: Earth Goddesses
Under the Moonlight and Into Herself: Becky Raisman’s Earth Goddesses Shines with Pop Positivity
by Jack Rush
Originally from Highland Park, Illinois and now based in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, Becky Raisman steps confidently into a space of warmth, femininity, and perseverance on her latest EP, Earth Goddesses. Short yet purposeful, the three-track release plays like a guided moment of reflection and celebration, channeling personal growth into pop-forward songwriting that feels both grounding and uplifting. Crafted by the Columbia College Chicago alum, the EP captures an artist settling into her voice with clarity and joy.
The journey opens with “Moonlight Goddesses,” a glowing invocation set against jangling guitars and a stream-of-consciousness vocal delivery. The song imagines a communal, almost ritualistic gathering under a “feminist moonlight,” where creativity and connection coexist. As the track unfolds, solemn guitar layers give way to a twinkling, reflective playfulness, reinforcing the song’s sense of balance between introspection and release. It’s a fitting introduction, establishing the EP’s central themes of self-awareness and collective energy.
“Live It Up, Live It Loud” shifts the mood toward exuberance. Driven by peppy guitars with hints of reggae sway, the track embodies a carpe diem spirit that encourages confidence and presence. Raisman’s vocals strut with easy charisma, and a burst of twangy guitar near the two-minute mark adds texture and lift. Where the opener invites contemplation, this track urges motion, showing Raisman’s ability to move fluidly between moods without breaking the EP’s cohesive flow.
Closing track “Shining Through My Window” brings the project home with piano-led warmth and emotional clarity. The illuminated arrangement allows Raisman’s vocals to soar, particularly on the line “Your heart is shining on my wall,” which feels both intimate and expansive. A tender guitar solo punctuates the chorus, blending introspection with earnest release and leaving a lingering sense of reassurance. It’s a gentle but affecting finale that reinforces the EP’s core message of light, resilience, and self-expression.
Clocking in at just over nine minutes, Earth Goddesses feels complete rather than slight. Each track serves a clear purpose, and the tight structure makes the EP accessible while still rewarding repeat listens. Recorded at Sound Farm Studios and the producer’s home, and inspired in part by songwriting classes and nostalgic cultural touchstones, the project radiates positivity without feeling forced or naïve. With Earth Goddesses, Becky Raisman delivers a concise yet resonant statement—music designed to lift, energize, and remind listeners that strength and joy can coexist beautifully.
