Gadi Sassoon: Modes of Vibration - Live at the UN

Recorded during the closing ceremony of the 2025 AI For Good Summit at the United Nations in Geneva, Modes of Vibration: Live at the UN captures Gadi Sassoon at the cutting edge of musical innovation. The performance blends piano, violin, and Sassoon’s striking sculpture-based synth with TEAL—his algorithmic companion that turns sound into sensation.

TEAL (Transmodal Emotional Amplification Listener) is an AI-driven system capable of interpreting musical gestures in real time. As Sassoon performs, TEAL analyzes melody, harmony, and phrasing, responding with a dynamic audiovisual layer that reshapes the music as it unfolds. Rather than functioning as a backdrop or special effect, TEAL behaves like a co-composer—reacting, nudging, and occasionally steering the improvisation into unexpected territory.

Sassoon, a classically trained composer and transmedia electronic artist, has long explored the intersection of technology and human expression. Here, he pushes the idea further: the performance becomes a dialogue between human intention and machine interpretation. Using an arsenal of tools—MaxMSP, Ableton Live, JavaScript, Ollama, qwen2:7b-instruct, StreamDiffusion, OpenCV, MediaPipe, and TouchDesigner—TEAL listens, processes, and influences the flow of the music with uncanny sensitivity.

Yet the album never loses its human core. Sassoon emphasizes that technology is a means to amplify emotion, not replace it. His phrasing on piano and violin remains warm and deliberate, his improvisations shaped but never overshadowed by the system responding to him. The result is a work that meditates on emotional sovereignty in an era where human creativity increasingly entangles with artificial intelligence.

Derived from his acclaimed Modes of Vibration project, this live recording extends Sassoon’s investigation into how art and technology can co-evolve. It is both cerebral and sensorial—a performance that feels as much like a conversation as a composition.

Modes of Vibration: Live at the UN is available now on Bandcamp and will be released on major streaming platforms on December 14.
