KC: Power
KC Turns an Unexpected Digital Following Into a New Chapter in Music
by Jack Rush
KC’s path back to music looks considerably different from the one he originally imagined.
After spending years pursuing a traditional independent music career, the artist eventually stepped away for nearly three years. The break, however, led to an unexpected second act. KC began creating online content focused on spirituality, wellness, mindset and personal growth, eventually building an audience of more than half a million followers.
Now, he is bringing that audience into a part of his life many of them never knew existed.
Rather than treating his return as a complete reinvention, KC has started introducing listeners to music that predates the platform he has today. Older material is finding a new audience, effectively allowing him to restart his music career with something he lacked the first time around: an established community already invested in who he is.
The transition has also challenged the increasingly common idea that artists need to separate their music from the rest of their online identity. KC built his following without positioning himself primarily as a musician, and he is now allowing those different sides of his creative life to exist together.
One song taking on renewed significance is “Power,” produced by Neil Engle and Kenny Carkeet. Written years before KC developed his current online presence, the track centers on resilience, faith and self-belief, themes that have since become closely connected to the work he shares with his digital audience.
The timing gives the record an entirely different context today. What was originally one chapter in KC’s catalog now feels closely aligned with the person and platform he became during his absence from music.
His decision to return also carries a deeply personal motivation. After leaving Los Angeles and returning to the Midwest, KC questioned whether his years spent pursuing music had ultimately led anywhere. The unexpected death of his lifelong best friend in October 2025 changed his perspective, pushing him to reconsider abandoning the creative work that had once defined so much of his life.
Instead of attempting to recreate his previous career, KC appears to be approaching this chapter differently. He has been gradually sharing music with his existing audience rather than forcing an immediate rebrand, an approach he says has already contributed to increased streaming activity.
For KC, that organic crossover may ultimately be the most interesting part of the story. He spent years trying to find an audience for his music, only to build that audience while doing something else entirely.
