Monâco: Full Moon

Monâco Embrace the Darkness on Psychedelic Rock Journey “Full Moon”

by Jack Rush

On “Full Moon,” Monâco’s latest release, spiraling thoughts and inner turmoil collide with an expansive instrumental approach that moves between hypnotic calm and full-throttle rock.

“You don't know what you're doing / You're losing your mind / You're losing your life,” the band sings, capturing the disorientation at the heart of the track. As the lyrics descend into uncertainty, the music grows increasingly restless, pairing brooding passages with riffs that hit with the right amount of grit.

The band describes the song as a warning against allowing fear and insecurity to dictate your life. “Once you let them drag you down far enough, it's hard to crawl back out,” they explain.

Rather than keeping the spotlight on a single performer, Monâco build “Full Moon” around the interplay between its four members. “It's like everyone is doing a solo at the same time, but it blends effortlessly and naturally to create that psychedelic soundscape,” the group says. The result reflects a shared appreciation for the adventurous rock of the greats that came before them.

That ambition extends to the recording process. Tracked at The Shed, the band’s personal studio, the song features more than 30 microphones dedicated to capturing the drums, giving Conner Yahres’ performance an especially massive presence.

The release also includes “Full Moon (Reprise),” an instrumental counterpart to the lead track. Together, the two tracks capture Monâco’s knack for turning emotional weight into immersive, high-voltage rock. With their next album on the horizon, “Full Moon” offers a compelling preview of what the Charleston South Carolina quartet has in store.
