VAN COUVER: Wrong
VAN COUVER Find Clarity in Chaos on the Urgent New Single “Wrong”
by Jack Rush
There’s something deeply satisfying about a band that understands its strengths and doesn’t bury them under unnecessary excess. On “Wrong,” VAN COUVER deliver a sharp, high-energy indie rock track that feels immediate from the very first seconds. Lean, driving, and refreshingly unpretentious, the single captures the restless spirit of early-2000s guitar music while sounding fully alive in the present moment.
Powered by a relentless rhythm section and layered guitars that balance melody with grit, “Wrong” moves with the confidence of a band that has fully settled into its identity. The track never lingers too long in one place; it surges forward with the kind of momentum that recalls the early work of The Strokes, where hooks arrive fast and instinctively feel familiar. By the end of the first chorus, it already sounds like a song you’ve known for years.
What gives “Wrong” its staying power, however, is the emotional tension running beneath the surface. Lyrically, the song taps into the frustration of feeling misunderstood or forced to “play along” simply to keep the peace. Rather than sinking into self-pity, VAN COUVER channel that anxiety into something cathartic and alive. The result is a track that feels both personal and universal, driven less by dramatics than by raw conviction.
Formed in 2018 in Lugano, VAN COUVER have spent the last several years refining a sound where early New York indie rock collides with the atmospheric textures of ‘90s British alternative music. Their 2023 debut album, How’s The Weather?, introduced a group capable of evoking echoes of Interpol and Slowdive through hypnotic vocals and tightly wound guitars. Since then, the band’s songwriting has become more focused and assured.
That progression became even clearer with the 2024 single “Belong,” which fused shoegaze textures with indie-rock urgency, and later with their 2025 reinterpretation of The Captain of Her Heart for Swiss broadcaster SSR. Each release has pushed the band toward a more refined sonic identity without sacrificing the raw energy that defines them.
“Wrong” now arrives as the first glimpse into their upcoming second album, Everything Will Work Out (Eventually), due later this month. Across ten tracks, the record reportedly explores resilience, uncertainty, and the struggle to remain intact while life spins out around you. If this single is any indication, the album may mark the moment VAN COUVER stop searching for who they are and fully embrace it.
In an era where so much indie rock feels overly polished or calculated, “Wrong” succeeds because it sounds instinctive. No posturing, no unnecessary spectacle — just a band locking into its strengths and letting the songs speak for themselves.
