Freight: The Only Thing I Know
FREIGHT Capture Youthful Energy and Awkward Romance on “The Only Thing I Know”
by Jack Rush
Warrington’s teenage four-piece FREIGHT are wasting no time making their mark. Fresh from sharing festival bills with chart-toppers The K’s and gaining BBC Introducing support with their debut single “Me”, the band returns with “The Only Thing I Know” — a spirited slice of sing-along indie-rock that proves their chemistry is as natural as their friendship.
Formed by lifelong mates Luka, Ted, Jacob, and Anton, FREIGHT carry a camaraderie that bleeds into their sound. Their latest single, lifted from the forthcoming debut EP Kaleidoscope (due October 8), is already a live favourite. With its chant-ready chorus, crisp hooks, and youthful drive, it’s the sort of song built for festivals and late-night gigs where connection matters more than perfection.
Frontman Luka Gunes calls it his favourite song to play live:
“I teach the crowd the words of the chorus and get them to sing along, which is always amazing to see and hear. It’s a song we love to play live and has a real sing-along feel to it.”
Lyrically, “The Only Thing I Know” captures the awkward courage of young love, pulling inspiration from the film Superbad and turning it into something unexpectedly heartfelt. What begins as a night-out story evolves into a genuine anthem about taking risks and making yourself known.
With producer Gareth Nuttall (Lounge Studios, Wigan / Soundhouse Studios, Liverpool) behind the desk, the track has polish without losing its raw, playful spark. It feels like the work of a band still in their first year together, but already writing songs that sound both fresh and timeless.
If “The Only Thing I Know” is any indication, FREIGHT’s debut EP will be brimming with choruses you can’t help but shout back — music that thrives equally in sweaty clubs and on bigger festival stages. For a group of best mates barely seven months into their journey, it’s clear they’re already building something lasting.
