Sophie So: Brave Thing
Sophie So Finds Power in Vulnerability on Brave Thing
by Jack Rush
Czech-British indie artist Sophie So, now based in New York City, arrives with a debut EP that pulses with daring softness and cinematic edge. Blending indie experimental pop with soft rock textures and ethereal electronics, Brave Thing is a luminous exploration of risk, reinvention, and the quiet courage it takes to begin again.
The title track—written mid-flight on the day Sophie moved to New York—sets the tone for a body of work that straddles continents and emotional states. Co-produced and mixed between NYC and Brno, CZ with Rhys Braddock (Blind Künstler, Metronome Blues), the EP exudes both intimacy and expansiveness, as if you’re eavesdropping on transformation in progress.
Released on July 18, 2025, Brave Thing follows the success of lead singles “Brave Thing” and “Do Me a Favour,” which garnered Spotify playlist placements, indie radio buzz, and even charted in Prague. The opening track, “Follicular Phase,” has already sparked industry attention, with a global feminine care brand licensing deal currently underway.
Sophie’s sonic palette draws comparisons to Björk, Lorde, The Dø, and Wes Reeve, balancing vulnerability with bold production choices. Dreamy, tactile, and rooted in lyrical precision, Brave Thing feels both handmade and visionary.
With Brave Thing, Sophie So doesn’t just share her music—she invites listeners into the process of becoming, in all its fragile, fearless glory. A debut this self-assured only comes from an artist unafraid to honor every version of herself along the way.
