obee Previews Upcoming Album ‘ATOM’ With New Electronic-Dance Single “IFUWANNA”
by Jack Rush
Nashville artist and producer obee is setting the stage for his forthcoming album ATOM with “IFUWANNA,” a new electronic-dance single that places chemistry, movement, and human interaction at the center of the conversation. The release arrives ahead of the self-taught musician’s new record this fall, a project expected to examine relationships, addiction, hardship, lifestyle, and the broader concepts of space and time.
Rather than treating dance music purely as an exercise in escapism, “IFUWANNA” considers what happens between people when language becomes secondary. The song was written between studio sessions and developed around conversation, semantics, and the subtle negotiations that happen both on and away from the dance floor.
That premise gives the record a more interesting foundation than the typical pursuit of a club-ready hook. obee draws from space-age house and funk while allowing the lyrics themselves to become part of the rhythm. There is an intentional looseness to the track, but its construction feels considered. Desire is communicated through suggestion and momentum rather than an overly literal narrative.
It also points toward the contrasts that appear to define ATOM. obee has positioned the upcoming record around subjects that range from relationships and nightlife to the turmoil of previous addiction, giving the larger project considerably heavier stakes than “IFUWANNA” initially reveals.
Still, this particular release does not need to carry all of that weight. obee says he ultimately wants listeners to dance, loosen up, and “feel themselves a little.”
“IFUWANNA” succeeds by keeping that objective simple while hinting at a much broader artistic statement still to come.
